About

Hi friends!
This is the home of Berkley Illustration, aka Ryan and Lucy Berkley of Portland, Oregon. Ryan is the crazy talented self-taught artist and Lucy is the storywriter/customer services/computery person behind the scenes. (Lucy writes the bios so she's allowed to be so boastful about Ryan's talents!)

In case you are curious sort, here is the background story on the animal portraits:
Ryan started drawing animal portraits in April of 2006 for the first Crafty Wonderland art and craft show in Portland (www.craftywonderland.com). We decided to do an "ancestor theme" for our booth inspired by our love of animals and also 'old-timey' portraiture. The ancestor animals did so well at that first show that they've continued to evolve and multiply ever since. We've made a happy little home for ourselves on Etsy since 2007…

All the art featured in our shop was hand-drawn by Ryan using markers and colored pencils. The only digitizing done is the background color on the animal portraits.

We continue to add animal portraits as often as we can as well as other stories, creatures, and heroes.

Ryan loves doing all kinds of illustration projects and has done work for clients including Nike, The Discovery Channel, Urban Outfitters, Land of Nod, Patagonia, Audubon Magazine, Crafty Wonderland, and various bands. His work has been featured in magazines (including Real Simple, Country Living, and Uppercase), a number of books and has done gallery shows all over the United States and internationally as well.
