I tried a lot of things while in school; ceramics, painting, drawing, astronomy, biology, you name it. I began my sophomore year as an anthropology major with an art minor. Then decided I’d major in art and fell in love with art history instead. I planned to use my art history degree and go into art conservation; I really wanted some hands on work, but more schooling was not in the cards for me. The call of Oregon was too much to resist and I moved West, came upon the Oregon School of Arts and Crafts (now the Oregon College of Art and Craft) and began taking metals classes. I’m continually grateful to have had such a solid introduction to metalsmithing from excellent instructors and for the experience of working for a number of years with a top-notch metalsmith in her Portland studio. Over the years I’ve shown my work in various galleries and juried craft fairs, had a ring published in Lark Books 1000 Rings and been a member of the Creative Metal Arts Guild and the LOCAL 14 women’s art group.
