About

Hello and welcome!

I have enjoyed sewing for a long time and came to knitting only 10 years ago. I worked in the fashion and outdoor technical clothing industries for 20 years and focused my skills primarily on engineering, pattern drafting, sizing and function. I love to make functional and simple items in colorful fabrics. I currently make everything myself but occasionally pay seamsters who want a little extra work for my wholesale customers. My designs bear two things in mind- functionality and ease of construction. I do not like to over-design things or add lots of extra stuff.

My biggest platform is buying things made in the U.S. and my commitment to my line being made here runs deep. I am a graduate of FIDM, winner of an Apex Award for Design Excellence, and pattern drafter and designer since 1991!…

Up until mid 2012, we raised chickens for eggs, meat and general entertaining ambiance for our yard. We recently made a big move to another agricultural center and hope to get our flock back within the year. Our daughter names the boots we do our chicken chores in our Chicken Boots. Even at 5 she got tired of the sawdust we schlepped in to the house and always wore her boots! My husband and a friend both recommended I name my line Chicken Boots, I was skeptical but it stuck and it has been a great name and sums up what I do- making functional items.

My ravelry name is saremy, my blog is www.saremy.typepad.com, Twitter is chickenboots and we are on facebook too but I do not do a lot of any of those things since I'd rather be sewing.

You can also see one of my designs in the book Sew Red coming out February 2013!

Sewing, knitting, and making very functional sewn items is my gig! I love it every day.
