Ellen Jewett's Profile
Ellen was born in Markham Ontario and raised among snails. She took to shaping three dimensional forms naturally at a young age. To Ellen sculpting has always been about life, biological narratives and cultural statements. The tedious hours of labor act as the mysterious foundation from which each sculptures' personality springs forth.
In 2007 Ellen completed her first post secondary degrees in Anthropology and Fine Art from McMaster University. She is currently pursuing equine science at the University of Guelph. Ellen puts her education as well as her hands on background in animal behavior, rearing and rehabilitation, forward in every sculpture she creatures. She considers her work equally an expression of art and academic curiosity into the lives of animals and human-animal cultural relationships.
