Monica Burke's Profile

About

My name is Monica and I’ve been making light fixtures for over 11 years. I feel fortunate to have learned the art and craft of lighting from the professionals at my former place of employment, Rejuvenation, in Portland, Oregon. My very first week of sales training included a day in their restoration department where, under the guidance of a seasoned craftsman, I made a custom pair of art-deco wall sconces for a customer. After that, I was hooked! I would hang out in the restoration department on my days off (geek alert) and learned how to wire various types of sockets as well as how to create really cool metal finishes. Well, since then I’ve restored some sweet old lights for my own home and have made countless table lamps out of old metal parts and found objects. I’ve finally channeled my lamp making experience to create and introduce a line of handcrafted light fixtures here on Etsy.

I use a variety of sources for my paper lamp images – Czech postage stamps, altered clipart and my own original photography. I really like old advertising art and vintage photos of total strangers. Occasionally, I feature the work of other artists – it’s always inspiring to work with other creative people. On that note, please feel free to contact me if you have an image or idea for a lamp - I love to make unique lamps for special occasions.
