About
Deborah Sciales is a San Francisco designer who sewed her first dress when she was twelve. Her Albanian ancestors emigrated to Sicily in the 16th century, bringing their rich traditions, colorful textiles, and elaborate costumes to a small village near Palermo. These traditions were handed down from mother to daughter through generations until Deborah’s mother passed them on to her.
Deborah studied International Relations and Art History at Mount Vernon College in Washington, D.C.. After completing college, she traveled to Japan where she lived for three years studying the language and the culture. Deborah came back to the States to settle in San Francisco. Deborah was an award-winning fine artist, craft designer and a graphic designer before starting DAS in 1997.
