When I was 7 years old, we lived in Granada, Spain in an old house that had wonderful Moroccan architecture and had one of the tunnels that had originally been used to sneak provisions into the Alhambra during the siege. The owner of the home was a famous jewelry designer in Spain, and I used to sit quietly for hours watching her create. She would let me play with little scraps and make things of my own.
Now 30 years later, my kids are all in school, and this stay at home mom finally has time to focus on doing something that I have loved all these years as more than a hobby. I have been so excited the last year to complete metalsmithing I and II at the Denver School of Metal Arts. It has been wonderful to add the uniqueness to my jewelry that comes when you add your own handmade findings and metal accents to a piece of jewelry.
