About

ExIconoclast reimagines the imagery of Hispanic as well as European Catholic iconography and popular culture. I work with the Virgen de Guadalupe. I also draw on the imagery of Dias de los Muertos and the Loteria. I also work with figures such as the anima sola, Maria Dolorosa, St. Agatha and St. Lucy. I find that Hispanic culture address some of the most basic issues of life such as birth, death, hope, desire, etc. in ways that for me are far more effective, fruitful, and helpful than traditional European responses to the same events. I produce both functional and decorative art. The more purely decorative art often has its beginnings in recovered materials that seem to almost magically suggest an artistic vision.
