Hello! I'm Lauren, a Spanish-American Brit in San Diego, California.

The name 'flaurena' is an anglicised portmanteau of 'flor' (flower) + 'Lorena' (my name in Spanish): I enjoy making jewellery that is a playful take on the beauty found in nature, and which brings out the best in the woman wearing it.

I am both artistic and practical, which makes me rather fascinated by the juxtaposition of things -- like taking something as hard and masculine as wire and transforming it into something delicate and feminine as a piece of jewellery.

I work intuitively, allowing my fingers and the wire determine the shape; and letting my fingers and eyes guide the aesthetic process.

The result is a collection of elegant sculptural jewellery that is at once intricate, yet minimalist; bold, yet versatile; artistic enough to wear on special occasions, yet practical enough to wear every day.

A flaurena piece is always asymmetrical and always with a pop of colour! Due to the hand-woven creative process, no two pieces are identical.

When I'm not creating, I enjoy playing with my dog (Shyhound.com), going on urban adventures, travelling to far-flung places, teaching myself CSS and HTML, performing improv, discovering new music, meeting people from all walks of life, taking photographs of life's little details, sharing good food with loved ones.
