About

Ahhh, the simple quiet.... That's what I'd like life to be. However, I don't know about you, but I find that life can be loud and hectic and perhaps a tad busier than I would like at times.... Therefore, The Simple Quiet. I try to create things that will bring a sense of stillness and peace.... things that bring a bit of serenity to my home and yours.... things that are simple and quiet.

If you'd like to know more.....

About me and my work:

I grew up in a family composed mostly of women, and all of them worked with fibers ~ yarn, floss, fabric, almost every textile available, and almost every textile came from a renewable source. About me and my work:

I grew up in a family composed mostly of women, and all of them worked with fibers ~ yarn, floss, fabric, almost every textile available, and almost every textile came from a renewable source. Silk, wool, cotton, linen, hemp. We dabbled in knitting, crocheting, embroidery, lace making, spinning, dyeing. Left to myself, I might have stopped at making pot holders for my mother, but I was and am so very fortunate to have a naturally talented older sister. Seeing all the wonderful things she could create inspired me to try a little harder. So, here I am, living within a stones throw of Lake Michigan spending my time immersed in textiles, most especially the wonderfulness of wool.

A bit about the earth and my philosophy:

I would like to and I try very hard to leave as small a footprint on the environment as I possibly can. I use 97%-100% wool fabric and linen backing for my rugs, both renewable resources. Every snip and scrap of excess wool, linen, fabric, thread, floss etc, is used, mostly as stuffing for pillows, sometimes for making cat toys for the three felines which share thier home with me and my husband. I dye my own wool so that I can control how much water and dye are used and to make sure that as few chemicals as possible are finding their way into the ground water. My next goal is to incorporate natural dyeing techniques to, hopefully, eliminate the need for chemical dyes.

I hope you find a bit of restful quiet, here....

Thank you for stopping by!
