THE BEGINNING
Handmade Baby Love was born out of a love of crocheting. After watching my cousin knit a sweater during one summer vacation, I got the itch to learn. Crocheting came more naturally than knitting, since I had no teacher but a how-to book!

I have been crocheting for years, and I love creating anything baby. Afghans were always my first love, but as they take foreeeever, I've focused on booties and hats. More recently, I've been inspired to make several new hat designs, and I love creating newborn photography props.

I am also a single parent; I have a 6-year-old son whom I love dearly. He inspires everything that I do. He loves bike-riding and video games (gah, obsessed is more like it!), and he would eat mac and cheese and pizza everyday if he could help it. ;-)

This shop has been open for three years, and sometimes I just can't believe it. HBL has gotten me through some tough times - always something to focus on and lean on when other areas in my life have been hard. I battled through college and finally earned my Bachelor's degree (woohoo!). I struggled through the aftermath of my divorce. No matter what Wins or Fails I was experiencing, I could still feel productive and relevant, and I will always be grateful to this shop for that. So thank YOU.

Current War Waging: to be Fit and Healthy. A looong time coming. At the 4 week mark, I was adequately hydrating, making better food choices, felt SO much stronger, and had muscle definition. At the 8 week mark (where I am now), I conquered my carb fixation by focusing on fruits and vegetables (I don't even eat ANY bread anymore), upped my cardio workouts, have gone in about 2 notches on my belt, and am finally seeing a difference on the scale (according to the scale, I've lost 6 pounds - but take into account all of the muscle I've GAINED, I am super happy with that.) I'll check back in at week 12 and let ya know how I'm doing;-)

In my car, listening to: Vegetales' Silly Songs with Larry (oy, I know, but what're you gonna do?)

Reading: A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens.

Writing: an urban-supernatural-fantasy (?), about 50,000 words in.

Favorite things to do with son: teach him new card games; most recent: Fruit Ninja. Also, our movie and pizza night (yes, I still eat garbage every once in a while... at least it's only every two weeks :P).

Favorite movies: I watch a loooot of movies while I'm working, to help me sit still. Movies that are fun, but I don't have to constantly pay attention to, are best, so I tend to watch some of the same ones repeatedly (well, and I have a limited library): P.S. I Love You, The Princess Bride, The Mummy (1 & 2), Lord of the Rings Trilogy, Harry Potter, Twilight (sort of), The Boondock Saints, and any superhero movie.... I could go on.... ;-)

Favorite thing to do to unwind: have a glass of wine and play some Xbox - alone - after the boy's in bed;-) (Current fave: Fable III)
