I grew up in a family of crafty and artsy people near the Adirondacks in Northern New York. In 2003, I started participating in a hobby called letterboxing (www.letterboxing.org, www.atlasquest.com) and I needed a rubber stamp. I wanted one of a bear paw print. I combed all the craft and stamp stores in my area. Couldn't find one. So I decided I needed to carve one myself. I did, it turned out great, and I have loved carving rubber stamps ever since!

I really love the soft medium, and the unique and hand-carved look. I've carved hundreds of stamps since my first bear paw and each is unique and one-of-a-kind. I use a material called PZ Kut (www.stampeaz.com), which is soft to carve, but strong and durable, and does not crumble or crack. Stampeaz isn't producing PZ Kut at the moment, so I switched to Firm Kut, with similar qualities, but just a big firmer. I usually mount my stamps on a thick 6 mm foam, that helps to hold the stamp, as well as gives the stamper good control and pressure when stamping the image.

I think there is something special about a hand-carved stamp. It is a bit more organic, a little less precise, a bit more alive! A machine can make an exact copy of an image, but when I hand-carve a stamp, I can add a certain life to the image. And of course...the images that can be carved are limitless!

I love doing custom portraits...send me a photo.
I can do a custom stamp of your logo!
I like to carve anything...challenge me!
