I'm a true farm girl at heart and love every minute of it. I have a beautiful flock of pampered sheep with such a lovely assortment of spinning fleeces... and a few chickens.
An introduction to my sheep
"Miss Dottie" is my Finn Jacob cross. She is the queen of my flock. Miss Dottie has the most beautiful natural colored fleece. Her wool ranges from browns to grey to white and even black. As she ages her soft fleece gets even lighter colored. May I admit that she is my favorite?
"Cappuccino" is my Romney - Border Leicester cross. I got her when she was a wee itty bitty lamb and bottle fed her. She is the "beautiful one" as I call her. She has such a gentle quiet nature. Cappuccino's fleece is sheared twice a year and needle felts so beautifully.
And my sweet little "Beatrix". She is a Finn cross with a super soft fleece. She is shades of gray with such a precious face. She is a smaller girl compared to my others..... but her voice sure makes up for it.
"Ziggy" is my wether BFL..... in a lovely soft grey brown. His regal face is a beautiful deep pewter. He has just the most sincere little sweetness to him. He is always pleased to have me sink my hands into his lovely soft fleece..... much to my delight.
"Thor" ... oh the gorgeous Thor! He is a BFL Border Leicester cross wether. He has the exact curls I was planning for. And he is a loving sweetheart who always lets me check those lovely curls out. He has grown into the "king" of my flock.
"Wilbur and Charlotte"..... my babies from Miss Cappuccino 2014. What a grand surprise that sure was as she kept popping babies out! ...... and the last one was the most special to me..... Wilbur as he is black with white markings. He is so so friendly...always eager for a cuddle and kiss..... Charlotte likes to get an extra cuddle or two also.. I just have to go into the pasture and squat down and they come running to me to get love.
Some of my sheep wear specially made coats year round to produce exceptionally clean fleeces. The sheep with locks can not wear coats as they tend to felt their fleeces too easily. They each have their own unique and beautiful fleece.
I hand shear each one myself using the old style of handshears or better known as blades. I then hand wash the wool gently to retain some of the natural lanolin and dry it in the fresh country air. I enjoy every step of the process, growing, shearing, washing, carding, dyeing, spinning, knitting and felting. If the weather is nice you can usually find me working on some type of fiber process out by my grazing sheep. Sheep are my bliss. Each item I design is carefully created to be original and a true " work of art".
