Julia Reyes' Profile
About
Being a painter, I have always found the act of daily documentation very important to my own creative process. I believe there is honesty to drawing and writing in a book without always having intentions of producing a resolved product. For me, the path in making a work of art is equal in importance to the finished piece. The idea of a sketchbook allows one to embrace evolution, process and exploration.
I started making recycled books for two reasons: my own search to find “the perfect one” and my desire to extend resources that are thrown away everyday. I find both inspiration and humor in going on the search for possible materials wherever they may be. In some sense, all of these books express an unfinished story involving the past, present and future. The materials that comprise these books have all served a previous life, then are rescued from the landfill and made into hand bound books, only to be passed on to another...
