About

I've spent many years making art and involved in creative endeavors --- painting, drawing, photography, sculptural and functional ceramics, sewing and knitting, as well as my current work with jewelry design and fabrication. I used to imagine a world in which everything I owned would be made by my own two hands. I've managed to make quite a lot of things that I own, but not everything! If only there were enough time....

For me, designing and making jewelry by hand is a satisfying antidote to mass produced items of inferior quality and over abundance in our society. Working on a small scale with my own two hands, creating fine enduring pieces of quality and excellent craftsmanship is what keeps me inspired and engaged. I've spent many years making art and involved in creative endeavors --- painting, drawing, photography, sculptural and functional ceramics, sewing and knitting, as well as my current work with jewelry design and fabrication. For me, designing and making jewelry by hand is a satisfying antidote to mass produced items of inferior quality and over abundance in our society. Working on a small scale with my own two hands, creating fine enduring pieces of quality and excellent craftsmanship is what keeps me inspired and engaged. Making small works of art for people to wear on their bodies, the ultimate form of intimacy-- is the most satisfying aspect of the whole endeavor. It's always my hope that my pieces will have lasting meaning and become keepsakes worthy of passing along from one generation to the next.

I'm also a vintage lover and collector and especially drawn to time worn objects from the 1800s and victorian era-- but love pieces from almost every decade. I have a vintage shop here on etsy that offers an eclectic mix of finds-- 5gardenias.etsy.com. I see myself as a bit of a matchmaker, helping people connect with special objects of character with stories to tell from the past. Not only that --but buying and selling vintage supports recycling-- so I'm happy to see wonderful once used objects find new homes!

Some of my Ceramic Sculpture can be found in the following Lark Books:
The Ceramic Design Book, 1998
Making Ceramic Sculpture, 2001
500 Bowls, 2003
