Karen Lyons' Profile

About

An anonymous wise person once said, "Thousands of years ago, cats were worshipped as gods. Cats have never forgotten this." It is their enigmatic aura that has captured humans for centuries and it inspires my art. I am fascinated by the many varieties of cats; their personalities, and their wonderful kaleidoscope of coat patterns and colors. Cats have very expressive and elusive faces. I enjoy the challenge involved in creating the cat. It all started many years ago while I studied classic clay sculpture with the NYC Art League. Eventually I moved from sculptures of humans to visiting zoos and the NYC Natural Museum of History and I began creating clay sculptures of animals. Eventually, I found my true calling was soft sculpture. I fell in love with the warmth, detail, and personality that was possible with soft sculpture.
