Sometimes you just feel like makin' things...Pretty things.

Hi! Welcome! I'm the Katie and the Byrd in Katie-Byrd.

I was crafty from an early age - bringing home lanyards, bits of twisted wire, crayon-wax candles, and clay creations (who knows what they really were) from Girl Scout camp. Although my earlier projects did not survive the test of time (!), my crafting spirit did. I've always thought of crafting as a way to claim a piece of the world - look what I MADE! With my OWN HANDS!

I have to credit my mother with instilling some of the craftiness in me and giving me some of my crafting skills. Mom taught me how to sew and gave me my first sewing machine. I am an avid thrift-storer and I usually bring home a range of items that need anywhere from just a bit of TLC to being entirely ripped apart and transformed. I see so many possibilities in used and re-purposed items that I rarely feel the need to buy anything new.

By day I'm a grad student, but on the nights and weekends my hands are always busy washing, dying, cutting, sewing, and gluing to create all of these beautiful treasures for the special folks who happen upon my shop!
