Hi! I'm Danielle and I believe that the best and most memorable things in life are one of a kind and cannot be duplicated - days that stand out against all the others, fleeting moments, a really great girls night out, a particularly funny road trip, a surprise of some kind - once in a lifetime experiences - and that is how I like my art works to be as well - one of a kind.
++ About The Merriweather Council ++
I started The Merriweather Council approximately 47 hours after my college graduation ceremony.
I was supposed to enroll in a graduate program at a shall-remain-nameless university that offered me one of those deals you don't say no to... so of course, I said yes to it. But then a lot of weird and mysterious things happened and a week before I was to graduate from my BFA program I was informed that said university lost all my documents and could no longer offer me that deal I mentioned earlier.
So then I was in this strange limbo space where everyone I knew had plans for their post college life and I had just back peddled to the beginning of the year and had no idea what to do after graduation.
And then I decided that was actually the perfect time to do this one thing I had always really wanted to try. And that's when The Merriweather Council was born... so to say. So I came home after graduation, slept off senior year for a while and then got to work.
And so it goes... and I *love* it.
The Merriweather Council specializes in hand embroidered necklaces and small space decor! I am Danielle, the resident artist and crafter at The Council - there is not really any true council, I am the only worker here :) I love bringing together colorful threads and fabrics to create small scale fiber artworks and happy things!
The phrase "Merriweather Council" came about when I was in 8th grade. My friends and I, who were still in the Girl Scouts, were so young and impressionable during those formative years that we were too shy (okay, embarrassed) to say we were still in the Girl Scouts while we were at school/ in the presence of our peers. So we code named it "The Merriweather Council." :) (I LOVED being in the GSUSA and I feel very bad about these years I spent being shy about it.)
