About

Connor McManus is a native of Lafayette, Louisiana, and is currently a visual arts and urban studies major at Brown University in Providence, RI. Connor attended Lafayette Senior High School, a public school which had, at the time, an impressive arts academy led by Kathy Reed. Connor spent a summer at Interlochen Arts Camp in Michigan studying visual arts and printmaking.

In November of 2011, Brown University purchased Connor's 7' x 5' oil painting, "Please Touch Me." It is installed in the reception area of Brown's new interdisciplinary center for visual arts, music, theater and dance, the Granoff Center for the Creative Arts.

In March, 2012, Connor was also awarded top prize in the 32nd annual Student Exhibition at Brown University sponsored by the David Winton Bell Gallery and the Department of Visual Art. The works of 30 young artists were juried by Deborah Bright, Acting Dean of Fine Arts, Rhode Island School of Design; and Ellen Driscoll, Head of Sculpture, Rhode Island School of Design. Connor's winning oil painting, "Hintgergedanken," integrates a number of elements, including two contrasting images from New Orleans: a shark at the Aquarium of the Americas, and a section of the "Mega Zeph" roller coaster at Six Flags, which was flooded and then abandoned after Katrina. This painting will be shipped home to Lafayette, La. at the end of the semester and we hope to have it shown locally.

Connor's art was also featured from January through March, 2012 in an exhibit titled, "Under 30: Louisiana's Fresh Crop of Talent," curated by Jeffery McCullough in Lafayette, La. at Lounge Gallery/Tsunami.

Connor was featured in an article on April 29, 2012 in The Clerestory Journal of the Arts, a joint publication of Brown University and Rhode Island School of Design. Read it here:
