Many of us grew up playing with mounds of plasticine and play-dough, but I never really grew out of it. Instead, I traded in the dried and crusty playdough for mountains of polymer clay.
My name is Kimberly, but lots of folks call me Kookie. Ever since I was a kid, I've always wanted to be an artist. I'm not just saying that, either! I remember being asked in Kindergarten what I wanted to be when I grew up, and I distinctly remember replying that I wanted to be an artist. I didn't quite know then just what sort of artist I wanted to be, but I did know that's what I wanted to do! What a joy it is to be a quarter-century old, living my childhood dream, and making art for people all over the world. It makes my inner child very happy! There are pieces of me on every continent of the globe, and I find that pretty freakin' awesome - and mind boggling, actually.
I live in a lil' town in Southwestern Ontario, Canada, called Goderich, where I live with my partner in crime, Jason, and many fury rodents. We live in a cozy little place that has enough room for the two of us and a studio, and so that makes my heart content. My work has been featured in quite a few independent magazines including Rue Morgue and Creepy Queen Magazine as well as a few books - 1000 Steampunk Creations and Eight Arms of Inspiration. In the recent years, I have attempted to use my craft to do a little good when I can, such as August 2011 when an F3 Tornado hit and devastated our beloved town.
With the help of folks all over the world, Monster Kookies managed to raise $819 in donations for our little town. It wasn't much, but this money went towards helping those who lost or had damage to their homes and businesses. We've also raised money for Food Banks Canada and the Canadian Mental Health Association - all worthwhile causes that are close to my heart. I've seen the kindness of strangers, and I have many Monster Kookies admirers, fans, and customers all over the world to thank for that. I plan to hopefully do more fundraising sometime in 2013, so keep your eyes open for that.
I'm a huge fan of Etsy.com, and this is where I sell most of my work. You can also find my work in the 'Mutter Museum Gift Shop' at the 'Mutter Museum' in Philadelphia, Pensylvania, USA, 'Uber Cool Stuff' at 123 Carling St. in London, ON, Canada, and 'Elizabeth's Art Gallery' on the Square in Goderich, ON, Canada.
Sculpting really keeps me sane. Most of my insanity ends up in my work, as you can tell by some of my off-the-wall designs. You don't see any Tentacle Infested Cupcakes and Mechanical Jellyfish in real life, do you? I'm glad to share my insanity with the rest of the world.
