About
My drawings spring from the natural tendency of objects to undergo transformation. Inspired by everyday subjects in the worlds of nature and technology, I work to show the intertwining of those seemingly disparate realms and to fuse them. My drawings express the constant changing of the world, and each one tells a story through playfully spontaneous imagery and the relationships of merging forms. Familiar objects adopt a rich and redefined interior life, from milkweed pods metamorphosing into steely zeppelins, to pears changing into plump human posteriors. An oil paint wash on paper creates the flowing colors of my backgrounds, while I render the drawings themselves through a combination of oil, markers, ink, and pens. Implementing a system of tiny dots, along with broader pen strokes, I produce drawings of intense detail, motion, and color.
