About us:
Spiffing Jewelry started as a hobby to keep me busy after the life-consuming rush of planning our 2007 wedding. It began with bold, colorful beaded jewelry and snowballed into stamped metal in early 2010 when I got my first set of alphabet stamps and a sheet of aluminum from the local hardware store. It's since become a family business, run by myself, Annie Nygard, and my husband, Nick. We've both quit our day jobs to run our business full-time, and devote 80% of our waking hours to making and shipping custom jewelry.
As the owner and designer, right now I'm running most parts of the business, from design, product photography, sourcing high quality materials at the lowest possible price, and new font and design stamps to keep our style fresh, to stamping each and every piece of custom jewelry, one letter and number at a time. I answer all convos and emails personally, and try to do so twice a day; once when I wake up, and once before bed. During the day I am stamping as much as I can to get orders out as quickly as possible. We're averaging 20 orders incoming every day, and still manage to keep our turnaround at one week!
My amazing husband, Nick, does all kinds of fun power-tooley things as finishing work. He sands/grinds the sharp parts of each metal piece to a softly rounded edge, darkens the lettering, forms and hand polishes each piece. He does all of the finishing work turning various discs and charms into finished necklaces, cuff links and bracelets, and hand forming strips of metal into cuffs, tie bars and money clips. He packages each of our orders (in a black jewelry box, with care instructions, a polishing pad and our business card) in a poly bubble mailer.
As of October 17th, my lifelong best friend Tara is joining our team as a partner. She'll be learning to do everything that we do, just in case something happens to one of us, as well as undertaking the design of an all new beaded jewelry line, and a brand new bridal line to debut in early 2012.
I'm so happy and count myself among one of the luckiest people in the world that I get to do something I love for a living and work on my own time. (As I write this I'm watching the sunrise from my sofa, with a warm cup of coffee and my favorite vintage granny square blanket.) If you'd like to know a little more about us personally here's a little more info. (And if not, thanks for even reading this far!)
About me:
I'm a huge nerd and crafty girl, both pretty much from birth. I've been playing house since I was 2, and consider myself an amateur chef. I love experimenting with new flavors, feeding people I love and trying new things. I grew up baking with my mom and will bake something delicious any chance I can get. I love all things crafty, and in a perfect world would have time and room for various art and craft projects, like decoupage and painting. I settle for a room filled with jewelry making supplies (and Star Wars decor) and being able to do what I love for a living.
I met my husband when I was 15, we've been together over 10 years and were married on October 2007. Family is in our future, but for now we are enjoying being young and running our business. We frequent Disneyland, the movies and the best pubs in town. We're often nerding out about one thing or another, and that will definitely show in what we make.
My husband, Nick:
Born and raised in San Diego (and a bit in Seattle) my hubs is a man's man, who loves steak and beer and bourbon and baseball. He's the reason I'm the huge nerd I am today. (He got me to watch Star Wars for the first time on Prom Night.)
He's a sharp-dressed man with better taste than I have, and can put together Ikea furniture faster than anyone I know. Aside from working his ass off for Spiffing, he also runs:
http://thestrikingviking.etsy.com which features his art, photography, and ironically left-handed drawings. (He's right handed.)
He talks quite often of someday owning a vintage mustang to restore, and a badass Harley.
