I've been making jewelry since I was a little girl, and I am self taught. Through careful observation and practice, I have learned to make quality pieces that will not fall apart like the cheap stuff you can buy at any chain department store.

You'll notice that most of my accessories in this store are made with feathers. I'm in a transition stage in which I'm using a mix of naturally molted and collected, and store bought feathers. When I first started working with feathers I was so in awe of their beauty that I excitedly bought feathers from fly shops or craft stores, not thinking about where they came from. However, I've since come to my senses and realized that most store bought feathers are from cruel sources in which birds are tortured or killed for their feathers. I can't support that!

So, I vow to never again buy feathers from sources that are not cruelty-free. I have a number of friends who raise chickens and guinea fowl, so they graciously gather molted feathers and I clean and dye them. I'm working toward ONLY using cruelty-free, naturally molted feathers. On the other hand, I still have some of the store bought feathers that I'm trying to use up because I don't want to be wasteful. In each new listing I will specify whether the feathers are molted or store bought.

I have a website for my photography and painting (www.stephaniehatch.com), so I will be using Etsy mostly for my jewelry and accessories.

Every piece I make is one-of-a-kind. I never duplicate a piece.
