“TENE”(pronounced t'en'e) means “basket” in Hebrew.
I started TENE three years ago after studying wicker basketry four years with a master-artisan in a kibbutz near Jerusalem. Basketry is one of the most ancient crafts recorded, dating 10,000 to 12,000 years ago. I love working with my hands, recycling nature’s “waste” in beautiful heirlooms and other useful objects. Today I weave exclusively from the date palm tree which I personally forage near the Sea of Galilee. Using the strong and flexible branches, fronds, raceme and even the fruits in my basketry provides a unique, natural product which is strong and long lasting.
Sometimes I use olive branches or other local vegetation to add details to my baskets.
I live west of the Sea of Galilee with my husband and son, and my studio overlooks the Mediterranean Sea, providing a peaceful atmosphere and incredible views. My studio is pet free...
