About

Stacy Hollinger

Stacy is a self-taught visual artist who paints large, multi-panel abstracts and semi-abstracts on canvas.

Stacy uses primarily encaustic medium that she makes in her studio. The encaustic is made from local Saskatchewan beeswax and pigment. It is applied in layers to the canvas panel board – fusing each layer to the one beneath. She does not use the standard instruments that artists use. Her paintbrush is a hot iron. Encaustic can be unpredictable because it requires you to guide the wax pigment with the hot iron to where you want it to go. The challenge is trying to control the uncontrollable.

Her style is unique and original. When you look at a piece it is easy to get lost in each rich and translucent layer. You will wonder how such a sculpted painting is possible...

Encaustic can be unpredictable because it requires you to guide the wax pigment with the hot iron to where you want it to go. The challenge is trying to control the uncontrollable.

Her style is unique and original. When you look at a piece it is easy to get lost in each rich and translucent layer. You will wonder how such a sculpted painting is possible. Admirers of her work feel compelled to touch it because of the rich, thick layers.

Color is the driving force behind her paintings. The excitement comes from seeing the results of the blending and fusing. The beauty of encaustic is that it is impossible to exactly recreate a painting. The texture will never be exactly the same. The colors might fuse differently and produce a different shade. Mass production is impossible. It is always unique and original.

Stacy's artwork has increased substantially in value over the last two years. She is an emerging Canadian artist that is dedicated to creating original, earthy and “raw” artwork for many years to come.

She recently left her corporate position with an international IT company to pursue creating artwork full time. She said it was a leap of faith but something she felt compelled to do. Nothing in life is guaranteed and she didn’t want to look back and have regrets about the way she spent her time.

What is Encaustic?

Encaustic is a method of painting using molten beeswax and pigment fused together. The paint is applied to the surface using a heat instrument and then fused for durability. Encaustic layering gives the painting an inner light and incredible depth that is difficult to imitate.
