My love of all things antique, vintage or just old started when I was a very little girl, thanks to two lovely Aunts. My old Aunt Maggie was the oldest member of our family and lived with my Aunt Maisie ever since I could remember, although in her 80’s she was a very beautiful looking woman who I truly adored. One day she invited me into her bedroom - and that was it! - Silver framed photos, silk draped dressing gown over a wooden framed collage printed screen, souvenirs and jewellery artistically placed around the loveliest decorated room I ever saw, (every little girls dream.) the passing of years has not diluted the effect of that day and the memory of her and her bedroom still fills me with wonderment and joy.
My other Aunt (Auntie Liz) was entirely the opposite, a hard working woman who made amazing things with her hands, she couldn't cook to save her life, kept loads of things under her bed and clocks in her house only worked if turned upside down (something to do with old mine shafts) we often sat on the floor going through her old cases and finding ancient sparkling buttons, wooden bobbins brass hoops I thought were gold rings, old lace and Victorian fabrics. To me this was like finding long lost treasure, I knew immediately at that young age, another wonderment was made.
So there we have it! Two wonderful woman shaped my mind and secured my love of all things old which is still as fresh today as was created then.
I purchased my first antique when I was 19, an old French slate Mantle clock which I still have today, it’s not worth much but looks great wherever it sits. Please enjoy my shop and if you are new to viewing things from yesteryear…I hope to convert you too. And I say to all who visit...Welcome to my world, put the kettle on, enjoy a cuppa and browse till your hearts content. Oh ! You can buy a few things also if it takes your fancy. Come on in my door's never locked.
