I've been a seamstress and costume designer for longer than I care to admit.
I learned to sew from my grandmother who was a seamstress at McMullen-Leavens in upstate New York in the 40's and 50's. For those of you girls who really know your fashion trivia,
McMullen's chief designer in those days was Dorothy Cox who was credited with coming up with the idea for the lady's shirt dress after sales on gentleman's dress shirts slumped. My grandmother was a wonderful seamstress and she could set a sleeve like nobody's business! I remember standing at her elbow, watching and learning everything I could. If she could see me now she would never believe it, I swear!
I've always been a "fabric slut" collecting fabrics just because I might use that some day. After a while my husband insisted that I actually use them or get rid of some. I opted to use them,
along with my huge collection of vintage patterns...
