Welcome to The Night Shift -- your downtown gallery of original art work, straight out of my tiny studio in the heart of the East Village in NYC.
The 24/7 pulse of NYC and its people are a constant source of inspiration; but traveling to the lush-yet-hardscrabble hills of my husband's birthplace in Jamaica provides a striking counterpoint for the rest. You can find both worlds in my work and I invite you to come in and take a look.
Like many artists, I work a day job to pay the bills. I'm fortunate to work as a computer graphics artist for a major television network by day (yes, ma'am, that IS an Emmy sitting on my piano) but I pursue my real passion, fine art, by night.
Ergo -- welcome to The Night Shift.
So, do you want the credentials first?
Ok.
I am a graduate of Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, where I studied history and film and semiotics and, belatedly, discovered my affinity for fine art.
I eventually moved to New York City for a job in television production land and attended Parsons School of Design at night. I was fortunate to meet wonderful artist teachers and then studied privately with one of them, abstract expressionist painter and illustrator Beverly Brodsky.
Check her out: www.beverlybrodsky.com
My work could be classified as impressionistic and expressionistic. I don't strive for a photo-realistic look but rather a harmony of color and a sense of emotion. See it and feel it.
My husband and I live with our two young daughters, who are growing up much too fast, and two very lazy cats.
Many of my paintings have a story that accompanies them -- check out my blog for the experiences and adventures that are behind many of my most powerful pieces:

My work has been featured in the following publications:
"Soul Pancake", a book by Rainn Wilson, 2010
"Harvest Magazine" an Australian literary quarterly, Spring 2010
