Born in Upstate NY, teen years in the SF Bay Area, presently residing smack dab in the middle of the San Joaquin Valley, in Fresno.

I'm most influenced by the culture and history of my family--we have a lot. My mother's family was first generation Irish, my father born in Germany (my grandmother first generation French there!), I grew up with a first generation Mexican stepfather, and I married a man born in Soviet Central Asia. I have a lot of flavor.

I'm a history nut, of course. Archaeological records, objects you can hold in your hand, influence my work. Central Asian jewelry and household items...I love it all. If it reminds you of something you've seen somewhere, if you get a feeling of nostalgia, history, permanence and ephemerality, I did my work.

Unlike most modern work, the majority of my items are single-fired. I decorate and glaze directly onto the raw clay and fire once. I have to be a little more careful, but I enjoy the connection with the past, and with the future.

I'm reducing my personal energy consumption by half and I think that matters.
