When I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer back in late 2004 I began working small...ACEO/ATC size small. I had always done things in a BIG way and my canvases from my peak painting times were upwards of three feet across. So when I couldn't use my right arm to reach up to paint a larger canvas I found a way to keep painting, only in miniature. The biggest lesson I took away from breast cancer was that creativity is a means of healing. Whether it is emotional or physical ills that need to be addressed, art in all of its forms offers release to your soul.

My childhood days were spent five blocks from the Atlantic Ocean. That meant that from late May to early September you never got the sand out from between your toes. That sand grounded me and I never left the shore. In my mind I have flown the coop many times but my heart has always been and always will be bound to the sea.

My Dad was a WWII photographer and he passed along his love of images to me. He did live to see me make a living with my photography but left this earth long before the computer became a photographer's best friend. I'm not sure he'd understand why I take away the crisp sharpness of a photograph...he'd probably ask why I spend so much time trying to get it in focus in the first place. The one thing I do know is that he would have been proud that I followed my heart.
Hugs from the Jersey Shore...Carolyn, a Jersey Girl
