Hello,
Thank you for visiting Xsilk.
Making things have been taking up most of my time for better part of my life.
I've always appreciated hand made things.
We are hardwired to find special beauty in hand crafted things
If and when I can, I like using hand made objects for everyday use.
As a maker of hand made objects, I came to appreciate resources and raw materials more, and I value all the work which goes behind a finished object.
Current collection is based on the traditional method of calligraphy-on-silk(China, Korea, & Japan), translated to modern design.
Strokes are loose and free, colors buoyant & expessive.
Simple design of construction maximize the flow of strokes juxtaposing the movement of the garment.
Xsilk items are made in small batches at our Brooklyn workshop.
Silk is hand painted or hand dyed using only eco-friendly, non-toxic dyes.
Then colors are set permanent by the old fashioned way: air curing for two days, then slow steaming the silk.
Each completed garment is washed at least twice and pre-shrunk before it is sent to out to the world. Silk used for our garments are quality silk, free of excessive wax and binder(often found in over-processed silk).
From painting to tailoring, I work on each item from start to finish with occasional help from an expert silk tailor.
If you have any inquiries or requests, please drop me a line.
