Bio

My name is Laura Crawford, I'm 30 and I am a citizen of the world.

There is an amazingly intense beauty in a leaf. Rich colors, bold textures – and a story hidden deep inside. For me, this beauty has no parallel – except possibly the beauty in a flower, seed or twig. Incorporating this beauty into a piece of jewelry – and thus making nature more accessible – is a challenge I fully embrace, because I believe it opens opportunities for us to connect with the world around us.

In creating a metal companion for these natural materials, I’m drawn to simple, sculptural designs – designs that mimic the often spirited and unexpected forms in nature. I work predominantly with 100% recycled eco-friendly sterling silver – a simple decision I made to respect our planet and the natural materials I incorporate. Every design is a sincere look at sustainability, while retaining the sort of friendly approachability I see in a field full of flowers and wild grass.

Most recently, I have become an avid bike tourist. Seeking out small country roads puts me in the middle of all that nature has to offer and further influences my designs. On the back of a bicycle, I can slowly explore the world and bring back new insights, new connections and fascinating new found materials. As my travel radius expands, I look forward to exploring the colors, textures and stories of leaves, flowers and more from distant lands.

In fact... as of July 30, I'm on an open-ended bicycle tour around the US (and, hopefully, the world!)... as part of a project called The Path Less Pedaled. My partner and I are on the lookout for folks who have made a go at living a "life less ordinary" - and then we'll be telling those stories.
