Bio

My name is Dinamarca Lorenzen, known as the "Mushroom Lady".

My parents, Ernst and Alma Lorenzen started making pottery in the 1940's and created the line of hand-sculpted mushrooms that became world renowned over the past 60 years. I joined them in the late 70's. Ernst and Alma died in the '90's and I have continued the legacy since that time until 2005.

In 2005, I had to stop making mushrooms out of clay as I developed a problem with my right hand. The Lorenzen Mushrooms in clay, are no longer being made.

I am left-handed so, to my great joy, I continue to paint.

Mushrooms and nature have been a big part of my life and passion. Aside from making the mushrooms out of clay, I have also become known for my watercolour paintings of them. In 1985 I illustrated a book that was written about the Lorenzen mushrooms, called "The Lorenzen Collection". In it there are 151 illustrations of the pottery mushrooms, their sizes and botanical names. There have been 5 major articles about my work with mushrooms written in the past few years and a CBC radio item. The variety of the 7,000 known mushroom species in Nova Scotia, should keep me busy and happy for my lifetime.

I am new to Etsy but if you wish to see how people are responding to my work, you may find my feedback information at eBay. Just search for seller 'jodilor'.

I hope to be able to share my impressions of the mushrooms and landscapes that I enjoy in my world. I sincerely hope that you will enjoy them, too.
