ABOUT
Heidi & Seek is run by me, Hayley Lau. Each garment is upcycled and reconstructed using quality second-hand items. I may combine factory discard fabrics as well. I hand-select materials one by one, then design and make each piece with care, expertise, and a unique sense of fun and colour.

Heidi & Seek was created as an alternative to the disposable, fast fashion you see in many chain stores. By supporting them, you support the unfair treatment of garment workers, who are paid a pittance or nothing at all. You are supporting the creation and disposal of goods in an industry where 220 million garbage bags of clothing are sent to landfill each year, in Britain alone. The worldwide amount must be staggering. Fashion fad trends are fleeting and only exist to encourage us to purchase more than we need. Choose styles that you will still love in seasons to come, instead.

I'm sorry, I'm not taking custom requests at the moment. But if you have a design suggestion or feedback, I'd love to hear it.

I pay myself a fair wage to make these, unlike the workers for many chain store brands who work for pittance. It makes me happy to make you happy! Each garment comes with an sewn-in Heidi & Seek label. Each order is gift wrapped in reclaimed pattern paper and ribbon, and shipped promptly to you in a secure post pack. I send you a message so you know when your order has been or will be posted to you (usually within 2 days of payment).

HISTORY
My Heidi & Seek Etsy shop opened its figurative doors in August 2008.
I've been designing and creating clothes since 2004. Since learning about the devastating impact of clothing manufacturing on people and the environment, I've endeavoured to challenge the norms of the fashion industry in an effort to live more ethically and encourage others to do the same.

ME
I'm Hayley Lau. I live in Melbourne, Australia with my daughter and fiancé. Love music, thrift shopping and making lists. In my spare time I'm writing a beginner book about how to make t-shirts and the patterns for them.
