choctaw's Profile

Bio

I own and operate a silversmith business here in the hill country of Louisiana. I am completely self taught in silversmithing and I have been at it for a very long time. I am an American Indian, enrolled in the Choctaw Tribe where we still speak Choctaw and live a traditional life.I just recently have begun serving in a leadership role for our tribe.
Our family enjoys our quiet, peaceful environment as we are surrounded by the woods with a nice creek to swim in.
Besides making jewelry, I also teach silver smithing classes. All designs are my own and some are taken from traditional Choctaw images such as coiled snakes, diamonds, triangles, whirling logs etc.
For fun as a hobby, I make ceremonial gourd rattles, gemstone handled canes and staffs and other ceremonial items.
All sterling silver jewelry is personally hand forged by me on an anvil like it's been done by our tribe since 1790 .Many of the tools that I use in my work belonged to my great grandfather. Be looking for my sterling silver mini sculptures. I am now offering only six per year.
Your purchase helps my family ( including seven children ) to be self sufficient and continue our cultural traditions.
Hope we see you on the Powwow trail!
Yakoke (thanks),
R.J.
