I've been a photographer since 1989, a digital artist since 1995, and a mixed media artist since 2004. My "day job" is being a 2nd shooter/retoucher/jill-of-all-trades for a wedding/fine art portrait photographer, which leaves me just a bit of time to do my own art.
My work ranges from feminist satire, primarily dealing with body issues from sexuality to size acceptance, to fantasy/sf, to just plain ol' pretty. (I like to pretend I'm oh so edgy, but I'm still a sucker for a pretty flower.)
If a work is labeled "Archival Pigment Print", that means I've printed it on an Epson pigment printer, using compatible paper and Ultrachrome pigment inks to ensure the best archival standards; for most of my images I prefer this to traditional photo prints because their archival properties have now exceeded all but fiber based black and white printing. (Plus, no yucky chemicals in the same house as my two toddlers!) If it is labeled a photo print, I either did it myself in the darkroom, or had it printed in a professional quality lab. All of my work, open or limited edition, is hand-signed.
For my mixed media work, I tend to use whatever medium I think will best express the idea, whether it is the luminosity and sculptural qualities of encaustics, or the bold colors of acrylics. I mix my own encaustic medium, combining beeswax and damar resins, in different ratios depending on whether I will be painting with it or casting shapes. I use gouache and oil pastel shavings to tint my encaustic medium.
