massagemommy's Profile

Bio

We are a massage therapist and an educational marketer, with a baby and a yen for nature (though we live in town) and the crafty. We're most fond of making utilitarian items; everything here came about because we needed something, made it, and then wanted to make more.

The eco-friendly string grocery-shopping bags are here in an effort to take back the space occupied by the plastic ones from the store. Also crochet rocks when knitting cripples your wrists . . .

The short skinny scarves were mothered by necessity -- it's amazing how much warmer a drafty old house feels when you wear an unobtrusive little scarf indoors with your t-shirt or jammies.

Dishcloth sets - well, the dishes have to get washed sometime, don't they, and knitting a pretty or funky square turns dull moments into inspiration, productivity, and presents!

And the baby leg-warmers . . . well, if you carry your kidlet around in a baby carrier or sling, you know how their pants ride up and there's that poor chilly little gap between hem and sock. A warm knitted tube is just the thing for slipping over that expanse of cold baby leggie!

I'm pretty sure I'll be adding loom-knit items one of these days. Like every 8-year-old in America, I was given a set of Knifty Knitters for my birthday (even though I turned a lot older than 8), and I dream at night of using them for the cool instead of the clunky. I've already managed a groovy earflap hat with corner bobbles, so there may be some of those by winter . . .

A few notes about materials, environment, and shipping:

Although a few items may contain a smidge of shape-saving spandex or nylon, I am a big fan of natural fibers and work primarily in wool and cotton. These fibers are durable, strong, soft, and warm, and wash up gorgeously with none of the pilling so popular among the all-acrylic yarns. Like so many on Etsy, I also love recycling materials or reclaiming castoffs, giving old materials a new life when I can.

None of us here smokes (unless the baby is sneaking some), and although we love animals, we don't live with any. No cooties either.

I can ship things anywhere you want. I'm just using the plain old postal service for the prices listed; if you want something sent outside the U.S. or shipped extra-fast, please e-mail me first and I will let you know how much that will run.
