Hi - my name is Emma and I'm the crafty type. In the past it's been soap, body products, beading, cross stitch, websites, painting... and now hand painted yarn. I love bright colours and stuggled to find variegated yarns that suited my style. I can find pastels, I can find heathers, I can find muted tones - but nothing BRIGHT and COLOURFUL and HAPPY!!

That said - I will custom dye!

I care about Australia so only use Australian yarns and Australian dyes. I love what I do. And I hope it shows in both the attitude I have to my craft (not takin it too seriously!) as well as in the creations I am proud to offer you.

Handpainted yarn is an art as much as it is a craft. I take the utmost care in producing my yarns but at the same time I am not so careful as to avoid making art in the process! A life lived in fear of not being perfect is a life half lived, and therein lies my one warning about these yarns - they are hand painted and so are not perfect. In their inperfection lies my passion however, and I believe that my passion carries through to your satisfaction.

I start with the best quality yarns that I can find, and treat them carefully every step of the way. Each skein is hand wound, then dyed, then rinsed and dried, and lastly wound into balls. I know some people like getting skeins but this extra step allows me to check the entire length of the yarn (up to 400m!) for flaws or knots.

Knitting by Zen

knitting: a method of constructing fabric by interlocking a series of loops of one or more yarns

zen: a religion, a philosophy, or simply a practice depending on one's perspective

What is the sound of one knitter knitting?

It's about yarn, it's about the people, it's about knitting in public in a peak oil society.

And about being a Sexy Knitter - it's not just for grandmas!

Terms:

1. I will ship anywere you like. I'll gift wrap and post it to other people. Within Australia it's $5 for this service - for anywhere else, it's POA.

2. Shipping can be combined. It depends on what you want though - more than what will fit in a prepaid satchel will cost more. Again - have a chat to me first!

3. Postage covers careful packaging, and postage. It does not cover registration or insurance and it's up to you to choose these (which I'm happy to arrange but it will cost you extra). For a pre-paid express post satchel (which can be tracked but is NOT insured) it's a few more dollars. AustPost is used for all postage. They are great.

4. My items are handmade and carefully prepared BUT the colours are not going to be the same as what you see on your monitor. There is no way that I can guarantee that what I see is what you see anyway, and monitors are sadly the same. I try to take photos in the best light available, and am happy to describe the yarn to the nth degree. With time, I'll try to knit some of the yarns up to show the example.

5. That said - every batch is individual and may have some less than perfect spots. Given that these will at most be a few stitches long, I ask that you be kind to the yarn and let it show you its beauty before not liking it. This is another reason why I photograph my yarns in balls - you can see how the different colours work against each other!

6. Refunds will only be considered if there is a genuine problem. I won't refund if you don't receive the package. I won't refund if you don't like the colours. My completely impartial-to-knitting partner helps me with my quality checking and if he doesn't like it, it doesn't go out.

7. I am happy to custom dye! Email me at elemigirl [!at] gmail.com to discuss.

8. If you have a bigger project in mind than the skeins for sale, please let me know. I offer generous discounts for bigger projects - 10% for 400g and 15% for more than 500g. Postage will be more of course.

9. My products are made in a smoke free house but I do have a cat. Her hair is kept to a minimum around my crafting but there may be the occassional hair in skeins. She is a pale pink/white colour so these may not be obvious, and she is clean and apparently low-allergenic, so I'm hoping this won't be a huge problem.

10. Other fibres are also available if you like!
