Bio

Even if you've never looked for art online before, you might have seen my work. I was trained as a textile designer, and have designed fabrics for both the home furnishings and apparel markets.

My textile designs & colorways have been sold at retail stores all across the USA- from prestigious to-the-trade only interior design showrooms at the Pacific Design Center and San Francisco Design Centers, to department stores and trendy retailers. The upholstery fabrics that I have designed include rich luxury chenilles, gorgeous prints, and stunning embroideries. Between the upholstery fabrics and apparel fabrics, literally hundreds of thousands of yards of my designs have been sold!

Textile design tends to be a team process- it usually involves the buyer and the buyer's buyer in addition to the designers. It is great fun to be in the middle of the action! But it can also leave an artist frustrated and yearning to have more creative control!

That is the main reason I find painting so satisfying- it allows me to control the outcome of the work from start to finish- with no concern about the "numbers" that retailers must constantly face. However, textiles and the decorative arts have greatly influenced my painting. My sense of aesthetics, especially my color sense, has been shaped by working with some of the most talented people in the textile industry. I describe my artwork as "Art inspired by Fabric, Fashion and Interior Design".

My education: I studied textile design at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising. I studied fashion design, sewing and botanical illustration at Otis School of Design. I have taken classes in knit design from famous teachers/authors Lily Chin & Jo Sharp. Additionally I was a studio art minor at Sweet Briar College and have studied painting, drawing, printmaking, digital design, architecture and art history.
