Bio

My name is Lisa Jordan. I've always been one of those people who had a hard time deciding what to be when I grew up, and it shows in what I create. I can't quite nail down one thing so I play with wax and wood and leather and paint and whatever else comes my way. A common theme in my art and craftwork, however, is nature. Living under the jack pine and poplar in Minnesota, surrounded by nature, I find inspiration in its colors, patterns, and textures. Because of my deep appreciation for the beauty around me, I'm moved to do my part to protect it. I use as many recycled or repurposed materials as possible in my work as well as my packing materials, and strive to be kind to this earth in my daily life.

I often use felted wool from clothing in my craftwork. The process of felting (or more accurately, fulling) garments is one that most of us have done accidentally at one point or another...it means you've shrunk it with hot water, friction, and soap, causing the fibers to pull together tightly forming felt. The clothing that I use comes from thrift stores, garage sales, relatives, and my own closet. Not only is it a wonderful material to work with, but it makes me feel good knowing I've given a creative second life to materials that may have otherwise been discarded.
