one small star started in 2004, one cold week before the holidays in boston. people had asked me to make them jewelry. i had asked myself how i could pay my rent as a waitress/publishing lackey. one morning i sat bolt upright in bed and thought, eureka! i will sell jewelry to my unsuspecting female coworkers! (it was a little like dealing drugs. i would walk in the restaurant and hear "*pssst*.... do you have any on you? i have cash...") ...and one small star was born.

an artist and a poet by training, i work for a national magazine by day and have taught myself to make jewelry over the years primarily by taking it apart. i love mixing semi-precious and precious stones and metals with unexpected/recycled/repurposed objects including aluminum cans, camera film, hardware, office supplies, and found objects to make little sculptures and conversation starters.

am delighted to make custom sets for gifts, weddings, and other celebrations -- pls. see my "request custom item" page for more info. i also love rehab projects -- send me your great aunt's broken necklace or those beads you never wear and i will make them into something new.

now based in DC, am still a member of boston's fort point arts community and travel frequently to NYC, durham nc, boston, san francisco, and points in between and would be delighted to put on a trunk show for you and friends.

why the name "one small star"? it's from a favorite poem by wislawa szymborska, which you can find at http://tinyurl.com/mvk3a. she is an amazing polish poet who won the nobel prize for literature in 1996.
