Bio

My interest in art began around the age of twelve. I drew incessantly trying to master perspective. Drawing led to painting and graphic illustration. I was very keen on all aspects of the graphics arts by the age of sixteen. I took art classes in high school and majored in Advertising Art and Design at Texas Tech University in 1965.

My family moved to England in 1966. I saw it as an opportunity to expand my horizons, and I travelled extensively through Europe. I attended college at the University of Maryland in Munich, Germany. Munich was a great jumping off point! I could be anywhere in central Europe within twelve hours by train. I took full advantage of that and spent time in most of the world's major galleries.

My painting suffered from all the exposure. I became very frustrated as I felt I had no style and could only copy known works. My reaction was to give up. I layed the brush down and moved on in life.

Restless hands started working in three dimensions. I was carving wood, forming Plexiglas, playing with metal. I moved to Eureka Springs, Arkansas, in 1972 and apprenticed with a master luthier, Leo Ericson. He taught me how to build stringed musical instruments. My association with other artists in Eureka led me to learning gold and silversmithing. I began cutting gemstones in 1984.

Today I own It's In The Works Studio and OMI (Ozark Mountain Instruments). I make a few custom guitars a year and specialize in married metals one off jewelry and custom lapidary work.
