OddBallKnittery's Profile
Bio
Hi, it's me, Kate the Odd Ball Knitter. I'm an Atlantic Canadian textile artist and semi-mad knitter. I'm forever in search of the fun, the funky and the adventurous for my knitting projects and designs. Interested in purchasing an OddBall creation, either a finished good, yarn, kit or materials? Let me explain some of the general principles and practices of the Knittery and a few FAQs.
1. This is an absolutely tobacco-free studio. Smoking is NOT permitted on the premises. Ever. No exceptions.
2. Happily, this is NOT a pet-free studio. The pet in residence is a cat. Theoretically, she's not supposed to go into the studio area but reality, she's a cat. She goes where she wants to go. I do keep an air filter in the studio but if you are highly sensitive to cat dander, please give me a pass. I suffer from asthma and can sympathize with allergy issues.
3. Quality is a guiding principle here at the Knittery. I don't waste my time and effort on inferior materials and neither should you. When you buy from me, you are assured of high quality materials and a craftperson's attention to detail. Seams are finished properly, findings are attached properly. Whether an item is machine knit, or hand knit, I'm very particular about finishing standards. Instructions for kits are clearly written. Yarns are well-rinsed of over-dye. I don't compromise on this standard, ever.
4. Items offered for sale at the OddBall Knittery are hand-crafted in Atlantic Canada by ME. I do NOT import and resell inferior off-shore products. The Knittery is a certified Sweat shop, but it's my sweat, which makes it acceptable. As my daughter can attest to, child labour is frequently employed. Wages are awful. Benefits include hugs and chocolate.
5. If you have any questions about my products, please feel free to contact me by email via the Etsy system. I'm proud of my work as a small-scale manufacturer and I'm happy to answer questions from my customers.
Down to the business end of things:
Shipping and payment policies.
Payment:
1. PayPal is easiest for both of us. Failing that, I do accept money orders that can be cashed in Canada -- American and international buyers, please note that means INTERNATIONAL postal/money orders please. Please note that cheques and money orders will be held for 10 days to clear the banking system. This will significantly impact on shipping times.
2. Taxes? Yeah, I hate them too. Completely sticks in my craw, they do. I'm stuck with them and for Canadians, I get the pleasure of passing them on. Contact me for rates, depending on your province. American and international customers -- you're scott free on this one!
4. Questions? E-mail me via the Etsy system. I'm your stereotypical, very friendly Atlantic Canadian. If you don't get a reply from me, check your spam trap. I reply to my emails; however, there might be a minor delay as I'm a shift worker in real life. Business hours here at the Knittery are "irregular", to put it mildly.
Shipping:
1. Combined shipping? Of course. I'm happy to combine shipping for purchases made within 7 days of each other. Please, one payment only. Just let me know your intentions and I'll hold the first package. Waiting to decide on the second item? NO PROBLEM...just drop me a line and let me know you're looking at another item and I'll wait a reasonable time to settle up.
2. My preferred shipper is Canada Post. I will consider using another service, provided you're willing to pay for it. Just be advised, in my experience, courier services are awful and prohibitively expensive when shipping from Canada to the US, but again, it's your nickel. My requirements for a shipping service is that the parcel can be tracked in the event of loss or non-delivery.
3. For the most part, I pack in poly envelopes. Shipping costs are mostly about postage costs. My handling fees average around $0.50 to cover supplies. Items that need to be shipped in boxes are more expensive to cover the cost of the box. I make my profit from the sale of the item, not on "handling" costs. I find the practice to be unethical.
4. Need a more exact determination of shipping costs? No problem! Email me with your postal code or zip code and I'll get back to you with the options. Shipping in Canada is expensive and I'll work with you to keep your costs down. If you want to do your own look-up, my Canadian postal code is E3B 1B1.
5. Still got questions?? Contact me by email via Etsy. I'll answer your questions to the best of my ability.
