Welcome to my Etsy shop!

I grew up in a typical, middle-class steel town just outside of Gary, Indiana, where I was always the “crafty one” in my family. I enjoyed the challenge of accomplishing things for myself, an attribute I probably inherited from my parents – my Dad always worked for himself, while my Mom stayed at home. I have always loved to create – as a child I made pottery on a toy pottery wheel, created spirograph images and made love-bead necklaces, in addition to which my Grandma taught me to crochet and knit.

For a while “real life” sort of got in the way of my crafty pursuits, and I worked a series of regular jobs – Hairdresser, General Manager at a family entertainment center, office worker. I always managed to stay creative in some way, though – I played keyboard in a band for five years, and built a home I now live in with the help of my family. We pounded every nail and put up every wall. It took six years, but now I have a great house, for just the cost of materials. I have turned into a total homebody. I appreciate every inch of my house, and would rather be there than anywhere else.

I now live in that remodeled home with my husband, whom I met at a Blues Fest in Wisconsin in 2001 and married in July 2007, and a dog we adopted in 2005. My husband and I had a wonderful wedding on a pontoon boat, with flowers my Mom picked from her garden and a wedding cheesecake we made and topped with raspberries from our garden. My Dad walked me down the pier, rather than an aisle. Our wedding was a bit off-the-wall, maybe, but it was exactly what we wanted. We are a laid back little family – we love the simple things, we know money isn’t everything, and we try not to take things too seriously. It seems to work for us!

I started making candles because I found myself buying them at the store so often. I thought I could likely make better candles myself, so I decided to give it a try. I have been making candles for about six years now, and I enjoy the entire process, from melting the wax to transforming it into whatever I decide to make that day – votives, pillars, jar candles.
