Welcome to KnittedGems, a store dedicated to offering you hand-knitted accessories.

The owner of KnittedGems and the inspiration behind it is Marie Haigh.

Marie learned to knit from her mother-in-law eight years ago. She wanted to learn the craft so that she could make knitted bags for each of her six bridesmaids. It was an ambitious plan that was quickly shelved. The bridesmaids ended up with sewn bags instead. Yet, Marie was hooked on knitting.

Within the last three years, Marie started to design her own patterns mostly out of necessity of her bad shopping habits. Like many others, she bought yarn for its pretty colors and/or its soft texture. Then, the yarn would be stored in the stash with no purpose or intent. Inspired by a stitch dictionary purchased at Knitters East, Marie designed her first sweater. This sweater, like so many of the other early creations, went to her niece.

Marie's style of designing is labor-intensive. First, each design is first drafted by hand on graph paper and a drawing pad. Later, assuming the design survives the original design phrase, the pattern is transposed into a wire-bound notebook using industry standard abbreviations and instructions. Then, the pattern is test knitted and edited. Finally, the pattern is built into a PDF document and published.

Currently, Marie does design work for indie yarn companies. Additionally, she is working on a book.
