Bio
Jason Cannon was born and raised in Canton, Ohio. His family later relocated to Carroll County, Ohio. It was in the Carrollton School system that Jason had his only exposure to formal art training, spending about two weeks in a seventh grade art class before his teacher removed him, citing a lack of talent.
Jason began marketing his artwork via the Internet in 1998. Since then, he has sold and shipped his work to all fifty states, as well as at least eight foreign countries. His graphic design work has appeared in national publications such as the Mensa Bulletin, Angels on Earth magazine, and Integra, the Journal of Intertel. He now travels to art shows and festivals exhibiting his work.
Jason claims no particular style for his work. It ranges from realistic portraiture and wildlife art, to optical illusion and impossible object renderings, to expressive landscape and scene paintings, to folk art and whimsical pictures.
However, Jason has developed a signature method: the Visual Essay. A Visual Essay is a portrait, scene, or other artwork comprised entirely of words. These pictures are usually lettered with India ink and/or watercolor and can contain hundreds or even thousands of words. Airbrushed watercolors, colored pencil, chalk, and pastel are all used to add vibrant color to the piece.
Jason hand-builds all the frames for his original work, as well. He goes to great lengths to use recycled and scrap materials as often as possible. Not only does this cut cost and keep his work more affordable, it eliminates waste and saves valuable resources.
Jason is available for commissioned artwork and exquisite custom framing projects.
