elloh's Profile

Bio

elloh is the work of me, el (short for ellen) Lohse.

I graduated from rhode island school of design. Then I worked for a spell as a book designer designing mini books like 'Nancy Drew's Guide to Life'. The highlight...I met Mr. Rogers. His watch had musical notes instead of numbers.

I wanted to work for National Geographic when I was eight. They never called. C'est la vie.

Now I just like to travel. Plane, train, automobile, subway, on foot, or most of the time now (since I started working fulltime for myself!) by sketchbook and pencil.

I'm also a fan of humor, writing, books, words, world languages & cultures, portraits, libraries, coffee, tea (I always feel British), typography and hand lettering, playing guitar (horribly but happily), old school darkroom photography, bright, saturated color including the black and white of old movies and comics, artists like Red Grooms, Al Hirschfeld, Edward Gorey, Alice Neel, Art Spiegelman, Beatrix Potter, Elizabeth Layton, William Blake, Maira Kalman, Van Gogh, Sorolla, Quino, Mary Blair... and finally making my ideas into something tangible that can be worn or displayed.

Thanks, gracias, danke, grazie, arigato, merci, high five, you rock!

-that's all I can remember right now. please contact me if you've mentioned my work on your blog/site and I did not include you. I'm sorry about that. It's not intentional. Most likely the case of a lack of caffeinated beverage at the moment. I truly appreciate it. really. You rock. it's true.-
