My mom crafted for many years. I remember one Christmas when we didn't have money for ornaments, she got a bunch of can lids together, punched holes in them, put some glue on them and then poured glitter over them. Those were our ornaments one year.

When I was about 18, I asked my mom to teach me how to do what she was making at the time. She handed me the supplies and the instructions and said, "You figure it out." Since then, I have been figuring it out and sometimes without patterns. Like my Tin Men...I use no pattern when I make those. Most of my ideas come to me in my sleep and then I'm awake all night so I can remember how to make the item. I can't draw, so I have to rely on my mind's eye.

My mom always used to tell me that I have a good eye for color. I usually buy fabric that catches my eye, but then again, ugly sells too. To each his own, I suppose.

I think my mom is proud of me in Heaven...I have been doing shows for 18 years, own my own home-based business and make products for fund raisers. So if your school or organization are in need of an idea to sell at your next fund raiser, please contact me.

I was the Featured Artist of the Month for February 2008 at my bank here in Hays. All my friends think I'm a Celebrity, but to me, it was just another day at the office.
