Meet Marlon:
I have been creating jewelry for many years using natural materials that I collect in the forest. I grew up in rural Nicaragua, learning about different varieties of nuts, seeds, and woods, experimenting with their textures and shapes, and finding beauty in the details of nature. As a trained archaeologist, I gained a deeper appreciation for the ancestral and cultural uses of seeds and nuts for jewelry and adornment. Now my work reflects my cultural heritage and nature, while experimenting with new elements of design and innovative use of natural materials.

My artistic process begins in the forest, where I collect all of my materials myself. The materials are often dried, cleaned and cured, and then carved, sanded, or inlayed to create one-of-a-kind necklaces, earrings, and rings. I am inspired by the natural patterns and textures that I discover in the materials. No two pieces are exactly alike.

I moved from Nicaragua to Kentucky in 2005 with my wife Amy to pursue my career as an artist. Amy and I work together to bring Naturaleza Organic Jewelry to local galleries, art shows, and ETSY.

I am a member of the Kentucky Guild of Artists and Craftsmen and the Louisville Artisans Guild. Recently, the Louisville Courier Journal wrote a feature piece about my work that you can read by visiting my website.

Meet Amy:
When Marlon and I met in Nicaragua he was giving his jewelry away to friends. Before we knew it we were working together to sell his work through fair trade venues, and now we're in Kentucky selling jewelry on-line and locally. I handle most of the communications, I help design pieces, run the etsy.com site, and I’ve been known to pick up pliers and make earrings on occasion. I am also a consultant, Spanish interpreter and social-justice activist.
