Bio

Jonathan Owens has been painting professionally since his graduation from Cornish College of the Arts in 1997. His medium of choice is soft pastel, which he presses and moves on the paper with only his fingers. "I love the vibrant, pure pigments in soft pastel, which inherently have a unique softness to them unlike any other art medium," Jonathan remarks.

His motivating passion in painting is light. He chooses his subject matter carefully, from florals to skies, each contributing to the wonderful nuances that light exhibits. While light is one of his main focal points in painting, it is self expression that ignites the magic in the creative process. Jonathan goes onto describe his process in painting: "Even though I strive to paint light in all of its amazing nuances and surprises, it is the creative process of executing the painting that enriches me the most. At some point after beginning, inspirational emotions begin to surface. They may be triggered by a visual relationship of colors, shapes, or nuances of light. The process is exhilarating, and becomes an effortless flow of creative choices until the painting is complete."
